Privacy Policy

Effective 8 September 2026 · Brymble for Android

Brymble is an external brain: you say whatever is on your mind, and the app sorts it into tasks, events and notes. A log of your thoughts and feelings is deeply personal, so this page is written plainly: what stays on your phone, what leaves it, why, and how to erase all of it.

Who processes the data

The developer is Adilkhan Zhussip, an individual based in Italy. For any question about your data: brymble.app@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.

What stays on your phone

Your phone is Brymble's main storage. It holds:

the verbatim text of everything you dictated or typed;
the parsed result: tasks, events, ideas, emotions, notes;
task steps, reminder times, completion marks;
your category corrections — the app learns from them;
settings and a random installation identifier.

The database is encrypted (SQLCipher). The encryption key is generated on the phone at first launch and kept in the Android Keystore. Neither the key nor the database is ever transmitted. A copy of the database file taken off the phone is unreadable without the key.

What leaves your phone

Exactly one thing leaves: the text to be parsed. When you finish a recording, the app sends to the server:

the text of the note — so the AI can sort it into tasks and events;
short fragments of earlier notes whose category you corrected by hand (up to eight) — so the parser respects your corrections;
a random installation identifier — 16 random bytes generated on the phone. It is not tied to you, your phone number or your hardware, and exists only to count the daily parsing limit.

The request passes through our function on Supabase (hosting, US, Ohio) and goes to Google Gemini, which returns the parsed result. The text is in transit only: it is not saved on our server or in our database. Our server database holds a single table — a parsing counter: random identifier, date, number. No content whatsoever.

Parsing runs on a paid Google Gemini tier. We pay for it precisely because on the paid tier Google does not use submitted data to train its models. Google's terms: ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms.

Who we share data with

The complete list of everyone who receives your text. It is short:

Hosts our parsing function. The text passes through it in transit on the way to the AI and is never stored.

Google Gemini

Sorts the text into categories and returns the result. Paid tier: what we send is not used to train models.

Google servers

Nobody else. No ad networks. No analytics. No crash reporting services. We do not sell your data and do not pass it to third parties — neither for money nor for free.

What the AI does

The AI receives the text of a note and returns a breakdown: what is a task here, what is an event, what is a note, an emotion or an idea. It also flags signs of thoughts about suicide or self-harm — see “If you’re struggling”. Nothing else.

You make the decisions. The app sends nothing, publishes nothing and takes no actions on your behalf. The breakdown is a suggestion, not a command.
The AI gets things wrong. It can mistake a note for a task, muddle a date or misread an emotion. That is a property of the technology, not a fault.
Any mistake can be fixed by hand — the category, the wording, the time. The app remembers your correction and takes it into account next time.

The app makes no automated decisions that would have legal or similarly significant consequences for you.

Speech recognition — an important detail

Brymble does not record or store sound. The app never creates or receives audio files — it receives finished text.

But the speech itself is recognised by the Android system service, not by Brymble. On most phones that is Google's service, and it processes the audio under its own terms, including on Google's servers. We have no control over that and cannot make promises on its behalf.

If you want the sound to stay on your phone, install an offline speech recognition pack in your phone settings (Settings → Languages & input → Voice input) so the system recognises locally. You can also skip voice entirely: typing into Brymble is an equal path.

What we don't do

No ads, and no selling of data — to anyone, ever.
No advertising or analytics trackers. As of this revision the app contains neither analytics nor crash reporting.
No sign-up: Brymble has no accounts, emails or passwords.
No access to contacts, location, photos or call history.
We do not read or review the content of your notes.

Permissions the app requests

Microphone — to hear you while recording. Without it, typing works.
Notifications and exact alarms — so a reminder arrives at the right minute rather than "sometime".
Battery optimisation exemption — optional. Without it Android may delay reminders.

Retention and deletion

Notes stay on your phone for as long as you want: there are no expiry dates and no automatic clean-up. Controls live in the app, Settings → Privacy:

"Export everything" — a single JSON file with all your content;
"Delete all notes and tasks" — erases everything on the phone irreversibly and cancels every reminder.

Uninstalling the app also destroys the whole database along with its encryption key. There is nothing to delete on our servers: your text is not there. The parsing counter — anonymous numbers — is kept for 7 days and deleted automatically; if you want it removed at once, write to us and include your installation identifier.

Android backup and transfer to a new phone do not carry Brymble's data: the database is encrypted with a key that never leaves the phone. You can move your notes with a file: Settings → Privacy → export and import.

Subscription

Brymble is free today. When a paid subscription appears, it will work like this:

Cancel in one tap — through Google Play, the Subscriptions section. Cancelling will take exactly as many clicks as subscribing.
Auto-renewal with advance notice. We will warn you about a charge before it happens, not after.
No retention tricks. There will be no "call us to cancel", no hidden buttons, no pleading and no special offers at the moment you cancel.
Cancelling does not delete your notes — they stay on your phone.

Age

The app is intended for people aged 18 and over. Consent to processing is confirmed at first launch. We deliberately do not collect children's data.

Your rights

You may at any time obtain a copy of your data (the export button), delete it (the delete button), withdraw consent (by uninstalling), and ask us anything at the address above. Because the data lives on your phone rather than with us, you exercise most of these rights yourself, without asking anyone's permission.

If you're struggling

Brymble is not a mental health service and cannot replace a living person. But if a note shows signs of thoughts about suicide or self-harm, the app shows a card with helpline numbers. Those signs are looked for in two ways: the phone itself checks the text against a list of explicit phrases — this works even offline — and during parsing the AI, the same one that sorts notes into categories, flags them as well. The flag stays on your phone only: it is not sent to our servers, never reaches analytics or the export, and alerts no one. No human reads your notes. The emotion log is here to make things calmer for you, not so that someone can watch you.

Changes

If something changes — for example, if we add crash reporting — we will update this page and the date at the top, and surface material changes inside the app. Earlier revisions are available on request.
